Pholcodine is a narcotic derivative related to codeine but having little analgesic activity. Pholcodine is mainly used for cough suppression.
Indication of Pholcodine
Pholcodine is primarily indicated in conditions like Anxiety, Dry cough, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Primary ovarian cancer.

Side Effects of Pholcodine
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Pholcodine, which give rise to further complications include Epigastric distress, Biliary colic, Psychological dependence.,The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Pholcodine include Drowsiness, Respiratory depression, Ataxia, Restlessness.,The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Pholcodine are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Constipation, Nausea and vomiting.
Precautions of Pholcodine
Pholcodine should be used with caution in patients with any pre-existing kidney disease, heart disease, lungs disease, asthma, emphysema, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, glaucoma, prostate trouble or if have any allergy. It should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or lactation.
