Isoxsuprine (Isoxsuprine)
Overview of Isoxsuprine
Isoxsuprine is a vasodilator which also stimulates beta-adrenergic receptors. It causes direct relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and its vasodilating action is greater on the artries supplying skeletal muscle than on those supplying skin. It also produces positive inotropic and chronotropic effect. It has been used to arrest premature labour but drugs with a more selective action on beta-2 receptors such as Ritodrine are now generally preferred.
