Overview of Rabeprazole
Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor with actions, uses and adverse effcects similar to omeprazole. Rabeprazole (Na) is used in the treatment of peptic ulcer disease and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Indication of Rabeprazole
Rabeprazole is primarily indicated in conditions like Gastro-esophageal reflux disease, Peptic ulcer.
Contraindication of Rabeprazole
Rabeprazole is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity to the drug.
Side Effects of Rabeprazole
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Rabeprazole are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Diarrhea, Nervousness, Abdominal pain, Pharyngitis, Weight gain, Cough, Asthenia, Influenza like syndrome, Rhinitis, Chest pain, UTI, Sinusitis.
Precautions of Rabeprazole
Proton pump inhibitors (e.g Rabeprazole) should be given with caution in patients with renal impairment, liver disease, in pregnancy and in breast-feeding. Proton-pump inhibitors may mask symptoms of gastric cancer, particular care is required in those whose symptoms change and in those over 45 years of age; the presence of gastric malignancy should be excluded before treatment.
