Overview of Rabies Immune Globulin
Rabies Immune Globulin is a liquid or freeze dried preparation containing human globulins, mainly immunoglobulin G (IgG). Rabies Immune Globulin is obtained from plasma of donors immunised agianst rabies and contains specific antibodies that neutralise the rabies virus. Rabies Immune Globulin is used for passive immunization indicated for persons suspected of exposure to rabies specially in case of severe exposure.
Indication of Rabies Immune Globulin
Rabies Immune Globulin is primarily indicated in conditions like Rabies prophylaxis.
Contraindication of Rabies Immune Globulin
Rabies Immune Globulin is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity to any component of product.
Side Effects of Rabies Immune Globulin
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Rabies Immune Globulin, which give rise to further complications include Anaphylactoid reactions.,The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Rabies Immune Globulin are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Fever, Urticaria, Angioedema, Soreness, Muscle soreness, Stiffiness.
Precautions of Rabies Immune Globulin
Avoid IV administration of this preparation and give IM with caution in patient with thrombocytopenia and coagulopathies. Caution should be done in patients with hypersensitivity reactions to immune globulin or thimerosal.
