Paraffin is a mixture of solid hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum.Paraffin is used to increase the consistency of some ointment.
Indication of Paraffin
Paraffin is primarily indicated in conditions like Dermatitis, Eczema, Pruritus, Skin diseases.
Contraindication of Paraffin
Paraffin is contraindicated in conditions like Haemophilia,Bleeding,Malignancy,Edema.
Side Effects of Paraffin
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Paraffin are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Mild skin reactions.
Precautions of Paraffin
This medicine should not be used in the presence of abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting. Frequent or prolonged use of this preparation may result in dependence on laxatives. Prolonged use may interfere with the absorption of fat soluble vitamins. If a sudden change in bowel habits persists over a period of two weeks consult your doctor before using this product. It should not be used for a period longer than one week unless ordered by a doctor, especially during pregnancy.
