Overview of Fructose
Fructose used as a carbohydrate nutrient. itused in patient requiring fluid replacement and caloric feeding.
Indication of Fructose
Fructose is primarily indicated in conditions like Nausea and vomiting, Parenteral nutrition.
Contraindication of Fructose
Fructose is contraindicated in conditions like Liver diseases,Erratic fructose metabolism disease,Lactic acidosis,Methanol poisoning.
Side Effects of Fructose
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Fructose, which give rise to further complications include Hyperuricemia, Lactic acidosis.,Fructose produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Blood lactate increase. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Fructose therapy.,The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Fructose include Diuresis, Hyperosmolarity.,The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Fructose are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Flatulence, Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, Sweating, Facial flushing, Hyperuricemia.
Precautions of Fructose
Fructose should be used with caution in patients with known subclinical diabetes mellitus. It should be given with extreme caution to patients with impaired kidney function or severe liver damage. Should not be given to hereditary fructose intolerance.
