Fentanyl (Citrate) is a narcotic analgesic derivative of piperidine. Fentanyl (Citrate) is chemically related to meperidine. Contraindication of Fentanyl citrate
Fentanyl (Citrate) is contraindicated in conditions like Hypovolaemia,Hypotension,Raised intracranial pressure,Respiratory insufficiency.
Side Effects of Fentanyl citrate
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Fentanyl (Citrate), which give rise to further complications include Glottic closure.,Fentanyl (Citrate) produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Respiratory depression. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Fentanyl (Citrate) therapy.,The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Fentanyl (Citrate) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Urinary retensionX, Nausea and vomiting.
Precautions of Fentanyl citrate
Fentanyl should be used with caution in patients with central nervous system (CNS) depression, convulsive disorder, ulcerative colitis, fever, recent GI surgery, bradyarrhythmias, supraventricular tachycardia, pulmonary diseases. Patients should exercise caution while driving or performing tasks requiring alertness because it may produce drowsiness.
