Overview of Lutropin Alfa

Lutropin Alfa is a recombinant DNA-derived human luteinising hormone (LH). LH is a gonadotrophin, secreted by the anterior lobe of pituitary, along with another gonadotrophin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). It stimulates the normal functioning of the gonads and the secretion of sex hormones in both men and women. The recombinant form of LH (lutropin alpha), is used in combination with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), for the treatment of infertility chiefly in femles but also in males with proven hypopituitarism.

Indication of Lutropin Alfa

Lutropin Alfa is primarily indicated in conditions like Infertility, Superovulation, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism.

Contraindication of Lutropin Alfa

Lutropin Alfa is contraindicated in conditions like Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding,Mild to moderate skin and soft tissue infections,Prophylaxis and long term treatment of recurrent UTIs.

Side Effects of Lutropin Alfa

The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Lutropin Alfa are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Abdominal pain, Somnolence, Nausea and vomiting, Dysmenorrhea, Ovarian cyst, Injection-site reactions, Breast pain, Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, Ectopic pregnancy.

Precautions of Lutropin Alfa

Rule out infertility caused by hypothyroidism, adrenocortical deficiency, hyperprolactinemia, tumors of the pitutary and hypothalamus.
