Irbesartan (Irbesartan)

Overview of Irbesartan

Irbesartan is an antihypertensive agent, belongs to angiotensin II receptor antagonists. The actions, uses and adverse effects are similar to those of losartan. Irbesartan is used either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents for the management of hypertension and other cardiovascular disorders.

Indication of Irbesartan

Irbesartan is primarily indicated in conditions like Hypertension, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Diabetic nephropathy, Heart failure, Renal disease in hypertensive type ii diabetes mellitus.

Contraindication of Irbesartan

Irbesartan is contraindicated in conditions like Pregnancy,Breast feeding.

Side Effects of Irbesartan

The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Irbesartan, which give rise to further complications include Hyperkalemia, Impaired renal function, Myelgia.,The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Irbesartan include Dizziness, Fast & slow heart beat.,The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Irbesartan are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Fatigue, Tachycardia, Abdominal pain, Rashes, Confusion, Pharyngitis, Hypotension, Nausea and vomiting, Edema, Rhinitis, Chest pain, Angioedema, UTI, Confusion, dizziness.

Precautions of Irbesartan

Use with caution in renal artery stenosis, aortic or mitral valve stenosis and in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.Monitor plasma-potassium concentration, particularly in elderly and in patients with renal impairment; lower initial doses may be appropriate in these patients.
