Eprosartan (Eprosartan)

Overview of Eprosartan

Eprosartan is an angiotensin-II receptor antagonist with actions, uses and adverse effects similar to those of losartan. It has been introduced more recently and is used in the treatment of hypertension. Like other memebers of this class, it may be used as an alternative to an ACE inhibitor in the management of heart failure.

Indication of Eprosartan

Eprosartan is primarily indicated in conditions like Hypertension, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Diabetic nephropathy, Heart failure.

Contraindication of Eprosartan

Eprosartan is contraindicated in conditions like Pregnancy.

Side Effects of Eprosartan

The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Eprosartan are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Flatulence, Dizziness, Hypotension, Arthralgia, Rhinitis, Angioedema, Rarely anemia.

Precautions of Eprosartan

Renal impairment; breast feeding; use with caution in renal artery stenosis, aortic or mitral valve stenosis and in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.Monitor plasma-potassium concentration, particularly in elderly and in patients with renal impairment; lower initial doses may be appropriate in these patients.
