Polygeline (Polygeline)
Overview of Polygeline
Polygeline is a plasma volume expander used with electrolytes in the management of hypovolemic shock.
Indication of Polygeline
Polygeline is primarily indicated in conditions like Diarrhoea, Pruritus, Reversal of opioid-induced respiratory depression.
Contraindication of Polygeline
Polygeline is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity.
Side Effects of Polygeline
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Polygeline are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Hypersensitivity reactions, Transient increase in bleeding, Rarely severe anaphylactoid reactions.
Precautions of Polygeline
Plasma substitute should be used with caution in patients with cardiac disease or renal impairment; urine output should be monitored. Care should be taken to avoid haematocrit concentration from falling bellow 25-30% and the patients should be monitored for hypersensitivity reactions. Fatal hypersensitivity reactions following polygeline infusion have been reported with bronchial asthma. Some patients may undergo epidural analgesia with bupivacaine.
