Overview of Clove Oil

Clove Oil is a volatile oil distilled with steam from the dried flower buds of Eugenia caryophyllus. The chief constituent present in Clove Oil is the phenol "eugenol" which is present in amounts upto 85%. Clove Oil is a germicide. Clove Oil is effective topically to alleviate toothache.

Indication of Clove Oil

Clove Oil is primarily indicated in conditions like Colic, Flatulence, Toothache.

Contraindication of Clove Oil

Clove Oil is contraindicated in conditions like Pregnancy,Breast feeding.

Side Effects of Clove Oil

The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Clove Oil, which give rise to further complications include Seizures, Acidosis, Blood clotting disorder.,Clove Oil produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Coma, Liver damage. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Clove Oil therapy.,The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Clove Oil are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Hypersensitivity.

Precautions of Clove Oil

Clove oil taken by mouth may lower blood sugar levels. Caution is advised in patients with diabetes or hypoglycemia, and in those taking drugs, herbs, or supplements that affect blood sugar. Serum glucose levels may need to be monitored by a healthcare provider, and medication adjustments may be necessary. Contamination can occur if clove is improperly stored.
